4% Increase in Patents Registered with “Industry”

Al-Taj News – Patents registered with the Industrial Property Protection Directorate of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply continued their growth by 4% during the first ten months of the current year, compared to the same period last year, according to statistics issued by the ministry.

Statistics indicate the registration of 103 patents during the first ten months of the current year, compared to 99 patents in the corresponding period of last year. According to the statistics, foreign applications accounted for the largest share of the total registered patents, amounting to 99 patents, while the number of local patents reached only four patents.

The registered inventions were distributed across multiple technical and industrial sectors, including pharmaceutical and chemical industries, electrical and mechanical engineering, in addition to renewable energy technologies, solar cells, and machinery.

The Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply attributed the increase in the number of patents to the development and facilitation of registration procedures, the provision of guidance and consultations to inventors, as well as working to create a more supportive institutional environment for entrepreneurship and research and development activities.

The ministry explained that the growth in patent registration reflects the existence of innovative capacities among Jordanian individuals, institutions, and companies, and the potential to transform new ideas into industrial products and applications that contribute to achieving added value for the economy, pointing to continued work to simplify registration procedures and expand awareness of the importance of protecting innovations.
